XOXO

I've never been a jeans and a t-shirt kind of girl, but there are certain brands who really make me want to be.

Wildfox are one of these brands, and they first caught my eye with their Love Potion No 9 tee seen on countless celebs.  In fact the brand is one celebrities such as Beyonce, Katy Perry, Megan Fox and various members of The Saturdays cannot seem to get enough of.

Anyway, back to the case in point.  The other day I was lucky enough to win a twitter competition held by Wildfox...and the prize was a choice of a tee from their sale section.  I made my choice and it arrived the very next day - now that is service!

And this is what I went for...(excuse the creases!)

And cue dodgy photobooth pic...

I actually changed from the jacket to a pink boy fit cardie, but teamed it with simple straight leg jeans and converse - a definite 'jeans and a t-shirt' day!

This has now got me eyeing up the Wildfox website more than before - I am especially taken by the cake based offerings :)

Are you a jeans and a t-shirt kinda girl?  What's your 'go-to' brand for these days?

The Best Chocolate Fudge Cake

Following my previous cooking post, I thought I would introduce you to quite possibly the best chocolate fudge cake recipe around.

This recipe actually came from my mum, who used to cook it when I was younger.  The fudge icing used to drip down the side of the cake and I would surreptitiously run my finger round the base grabbing as much of the sweet glaze as possible before the cake was cut.

These days it's one of those definite 'treat' cakes served with a cup of tea or warmed and eaten with ice cream for a decadent pud.  It also works really well for cupcakes - one batch will give you at least 20 cupcakes - and it stays super moist for a good few days.

Anyway, onto the recipe!

For the cake:
100g chocolate (plain or milk, the better the quality the better the taste)
1/2 pint milk
100g brown sugar
100g butter
100g caster sugar
2 eggs (separated)
200g plain flour
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda

For the icing:
25g butter
1-2 tbsp milk
100g icing sugar
1 tbsp cocoa

Heat the oven to 180C then get cracking!

Melt the chocolate with 4 tbsp of the milk and brown sugar.

Add the remaining milk

Cream together butter and caster sugar, beat in egg yolks

Sift in flour and bicarb, beat well

Add chocolate mix.  Beat egg whites and fold into mixture.

Transfer mix to a lined (or silicone) cake tin and bake for 50 minutes.  Transfer to a cooling tray.

Now for the icing!  Melt the butter with the milk then sift in icing sugar and cocoa and mix well.

Pour icing over the cake whilst still warm.

Let the icing set before slicing a generous portion...enjoy!

Let me know if you give it a go...any other recipes you want to see?

When life gives you plums . . .

...you crumble!

Seeing as I spend a lot of my time cooking and baking, I thought I would start to introduce you to a few recipes - as and when I discover them...or make them up!

One of the best things about living in a market town is taking a trip down to the stalls as they are closing and grabbing some real bargains.  The only problem?  Getting home and working out what to do with 4 packets of blueberries, 4 avocados or a massive bag of plums.

On a rainy day like today (well, the past few days) I always want to snuggle up at home and eat proper home cooked food, so I closed the blinds, put on the oven and started to cook one of my favourite puddings - with a plum based twist!

Spiced plum crumble

(Preheat the oven to 200C)

Take 10-15 plums (I used 12), remove stones and quarter.  Add to pan with large knob of butter.

Add spices (1 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp ginger, grated nutmeg), 2 tbsp sugar (I used 1 tbsp soft light brown, 1 tbsp golden caster - add more if you want it sweeter), 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, dash orange juice

Cook over a medium heat for 10 minutes then transfer to an oven dish

Onto the crumble!

Take 100g plain flour, 50g butter and 50g sugar (I used a mixture of soft brown/golden caster again)

Rub butter into flour and sugar or whack in the food processor until it reaches the consistency of damp sand...as I think best describes it :)

Next bit's up to you...add a handful of porridge oats and start topping the plums

Make sure the fruit is totally covered before sticking in the oven for half an hour

Allow to cool before spooning out, serving with ice cream and shovelling down.

What do you think about recipes on here? Shall I continue?  I have a rather splendid chocolate chip cookie you may enjoy...

Let me know :)

I appear to have developed a penchant for structured skater dresses. But then, who wouldn't? The nipped in waist and flared skirt creates a fabulous silhouette and suits just about every body. If I could have all of these that would be great, thanks :)

A sob story (and a plea)

So you may have noticed the Very V-Team competition recently, and I for one could not resist the opportunity to 'win' a dream fashion job.

I've previously mentioned my sojourns into the fashion world - after finishing my degree I studied fashion journalism at London College of Fashion before taking up internships at Elle, Company, Marie Claire and Jimmy Choo, amongst others.  Sadly, I simply couldn't afford to continue any longer, and was exhausted from working two jobs (I waitressed evenings and weekends), so I had to give up.  The vacancies were near impossible to find (though I had one very exciting interview and alas was too inexperienced) and were almost all filled internally, by those who had been able to stick on and intern until they started to take home a pay cheque.

Anyway, enough of the sob story!  The Very competition is one I would love to win - it offers me the chance to become a Style Advisor for the company for a year and will give me a real opportunity to put everything I've learnt into practice...and get the job of my dreams.

So please, could you do me a massive favour and vote for me?

You just have to go to the Very facebook page - here - and have a look for my name under the VTeam Competition tab - this is what my entry looks like!

Thank you so much in advance.  My chances may not be high but as they say - you've got to be in it to win it hey?

Much love x
